Brian Bridges, communications coordinator for the Lake Hamilton School District, was recently elected as secretary of the Arkansas chapter of the National School Public Relations Association for the next two years.

The group's president will be Deborah Roush, executive director of communications for the Pulaski County Special School District, and the vice president will be Devin Sherrill, director of communications for the Bryant School District.

"Being a member of ArkaNSPRA has allowed me to collaborate with public school communications coordinators from around the state," Bridges said. "The association is growing due to the increase of communications and public relations positions in Arkansas public schools."

The chapter meets four times each year at various locations throughout the state. The mission of the school public relations association is to improve communication efforts between Arkansas schools and its patrons.

"The association aides me in my goal of making Lake Hamilton students, parents, employees and community members informed and involved with everything going on in Wolf territory," Bridges said.

The mission of ArkaNSPRA is to establish among the state's practitioners and educators a clear philosophy of educational public relations that fosters understanding and appreciation of the value of school public relations. ArkaNSPRA promotes competent and ethical practices in school public relations procedures by all of those that work in the schools of Arkansas.

The association supports and promotes the professional growth of the chapter's members by providing a medium for communication and for exchanging successful school public relations programs and strategies by serving as a network for such exchanges. ArkaNSPRA develops effective techniques for disseminating information to the public by school personnel to lead to a better understanding, appreciation, and support of the public schools.

"Having been a student at Lake Hamilton from K-12th grade, I have lots of pride for the LHSD," Bridges said. "I am thankful for the LHSD board and administrators for allowing me to serve as the communications coordinator for the district and promote all of the amazing academics, arts, athletics and overall atmosphere of the Lake Hamilton School District. I am looking forward to serving ArkaNSPRA as secretary and continuing to network with other communication and public relations directors from around the state."
