'No' to flag on public lands

Dear editor:

Rightly or wrongly, the battle flag of the Confederate States of America has been adopted by many hate groups in this country as their symbol. Some even have adopted the Nazi swastika. Bottom line is this: the CSA does not exist, except in historical terms, anymore. Therefore, this flag should not be flown over any federal or state building or monument.

Since this is America, and we do enjoy freedom of speech in this country, if someone wants to display this flag on a flagpole in their front yard, they have every right to do so. They might even go to the extent of buying a piece of property and building a monument to those who died and display the flag. But only the flag of the USA or the individual state, or a flag like the POW/MIA flag that is generic in nature, should be flown over any building supported by taxpayers.
