LITTLE ROCK -- Police records obtained by The Associated Press show the Arkansas teen arrested in the fatal shooting of his grandparents had a history of domestic disputes and suicide attempts.
The 14-year-old, who is being held in Faulkner County on two potential counts of capital murder, was denied bond Friday. His name has not been released by police, and Prosecuting Attorney Cody Hiland has said he'll wait until the police investigation is complete to decide what charges to file and whether to charge the teen as an adult.
It wasn't known whether the teen, who police said was being raised by his grandparents, has an attorney.
Robert Cogdell, the public works director for the city of Maumelle, and his wife, Patricia, were found shot to death Wednesday afternoon behind their home in Conway after his co-workers became concerned that he hadn't come to work.
Investigators were still gathering evidence and would not speculate on a motive, but said the grandson quickly became a suspect after interviews with family and friends, Conway Police spokeswoman LaTresha Woodruff said. Hiland has said he expects more arrests in the case, but none had been made as of late Friday afternoon.
Police reports and emergency response call logs provided to the AP by Woodruff show police were called to the house more than a dozen times over the last two years for various reasons, including domestic disturbances and reports that the teen had run away and stolen items from his grandparents. Authorities could not say whether he was officially charged in any of the incidents because he is a juvenile.
A May incident report shows the Cogdells called police because the teen was threatening suicide and had become verbally abusive to them and other family members.
"Robert and Pat also confirmed (the teen's) aggressiveness and threats," the responding officer wrote. "They advised me they feared for his well being as he may have been on drugs." A second officer wrote that the teen, "also confirmed that he had made several threats towards his family members."
In January, police responded to a fight between Robert Cogdell and the teen. The grandfather told police he found a large bag of marijuana in the boy's room and that about $300 was missing from his wallet. The boy told police he had taken the money and spent half of it on the marijuana, according to the report.
Another report from August 2013 was filed after the teen, then 12, allegedly stole his grandfather's truck, money and his grandmother's credit cards and tried to run away. The truck was recovered the next day, and the boy was returned home two days later.
Investigators believe the couple was shot Tuesday night, Woodruff said, Robert Cogdell in the house and his wife in the garage before both of their bodies were dragged behind the house in Conway, about 35 miles north of Little Rock.
