Oaklawn's marketing department received four Romero Awards during the closing ceremonies of the Gaming Marketing & Technology Conference in Las Vegas, bringing its total to 25 awards over the last six years. Oaklawn was competing in the large gaming property category for the first time as a result of its recent expansion, which increased the competition exponentially.

"I'm extremely proud of our marketing department," said Bobby Geiger, director of Gaming and Wagering, in the press release. "Graduating to the large gaming property category was a giant step up in class with our team competing against the largest properties from across the globe.

To bring home any award would have been a tremendous accomplishment, but winning two demonstrates just how well our team has developed under Kim Baron's leadership."

Oaklawn received The Diamond Award, the highest award given, for the Spring Forward Frenzy email campaign. It also won a Silver Romero award for its Cash Caboose email promotion. The marketing team has won the top Romero Award in the email category five of the last six years. Oaklawn received two honorable mentions.

"We are thrilled to win these awards, especially since we faced much stiffer competition this year," said Director of Marketing Kim Baron. "Oaklawn has been in the racing business for 111 years, but we are novices at gaming compared to most of the other properties. To be able to compete against some of the biggest names in the industry is extremely gratifying."

Romero Awards honor excellence in gaming marketing and are named for gaming marketing pioneer John Romero, who died earlier this year. These awards, in the categories of Direct Mail Marketing,

Email Marketing, PR Campaign, Website Marketing, VIP Promotion and Gaming Floor Promotion, recognize gaming operators that best fulfill the spirit of Romero's more than 50-year crusade for effective, measurable and accountable gaming marketing expenditures. The winners are selected by a panel of expert judges.

Earlier this year, Oaklawn was voted Best Racetrack/Racino in the Mid-South region of the United States by readers of Southern Gaming and Destinations magazine and Best Casino/Gaming Center by the readers of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette during their annual Best of the Best awards for 2014.
