The launch of a new website for the Garland County Sheriff's Department over the weekend meant taking its predecessor offline, Sheriff Mike McCormick said Monday, making popular features such as the detention center's online inmate roster temporarily inaccessible to the public.

McCormick said the launch required the old website to be taken down early Friday.

The new website, http://www.garlandcountysheriff.com, which was accessible by late Sunday, retains many of the same links, including the inmate roster and sex offender registry, and has added a link to a PDF containing information for domestic violence victims.

He said the new website has been in development for several months.

"It should be more user friendly," McCormick said, noting that it still needs minor adjustments, such as the uploading of his biography. "That was our goal."

It includes links for placing money in inmates' commissary accounts and paying fines and fees online. Unlike http://www.garlandcounty.org, the county government website the state provides for free, the sheriff's department contracted a private company to host and administer its website, McCormick said.
