HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- He has topped the country music charts in Europe, filled the Red Rock Amphitheater and sung with Dolly Parton. Now, Roy Rivers will return to Hot Springs Village at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 7 on the Woodlands Auditorium stage, 1101 DeSoto Blvd.

The performance will feature John Denver favorites, along with some of his own songs, backed by his band and also including Rivers' audience-friendly anecdotes.

As the performer tells it, when he heard John Denver songs for the first time, he felt an immediate connection. He recalls his dad saying, "You even sound kinda like him." Rivers spent the money he earned mowing lawns to buy a guitar and within a month had written his first song. Since then, he has more than 200 songs to his credit. One reached No. 2 on the charts in Europe, and one was licensed by the Salt Lake Olympic Committee.

Rivers said in a news release that he hopes the songs will "make you want to sing along."

The concert is being sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Hot Springs Village, and proceeds will go toward agencies including the Boys & Girls Club, Arkansas Children's Hospital and CASA, all selected because they support the Kiwanis mission of helping children.

Tickets are $20 and are available at the Woodlands box office, by visiting http://www.HSVTicketSales.com or calling 501-922-4231.
