Movies at the Market presents 'Seabiscuit'

After a successful first night of Movies at the Market on June 11 featuring Disney's "Frozen," the free summer movie series continues today at sunset with "Seabiscuit."

The award-winning thoroughbred movie is sponsored by Oaklawn Racing & Gaming, as well as Visit Hot Springs and the Hot Springs Young Professionals.

"We're very happy with the turnout we had last week," said Chrissy Egleston, marketing director for Visit Hot Springs. "I think we counted about 250 people, which is great for the first one."

Movies at the Market is a free outdoor movie series that is held every Thursday evening through July 23. The movies are screened at sunset in the Hot Springs Farmers & Artisans Market.

"The feedback we've received so far has been positive," Egleston said. "We had one little girl actually come up and hug me after it was over and tell me it was the most fun she's had."

Egleston said weather may play a factor in today's screening and that Visit Hot Springs will make a call by noon of whether the movie will be postponed.

"We don't want to deter anyone, but we will make that judgment by noon and let people know via social media," she said. "And anyone may call the (Hot Springs) Convention Center to find out if we are in fact postponing the show.

"Should we decide not to screen the movie, it will be moved to the next available Thursday which would be July 30."

Egleston said there are still two movies available for sponsors and anyone interested may contact the convention center. The other movies in the series include "The Goonies," June 25; "Raiders of the Lost Ark," July 2; "Grease," July 9; the Coen Brothers' "True Grit," July 16; and "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," July 23.

Picnics are welcome, but glass containers are prohibited, and the series is a non-smoking event. Popcorn, soft drinks, candy and other snacks are available for purchase.

Security -- uniformed and non-uniformed -- is provided. Excess noise during the show will bring an invitation to leave. Pets are allowed if on a leash, but disruptive pets and their owners will be asked to leave. And organizers ask that attendees bring bug spray as the area is not sprayed for pests.
