Tears for unity

Dear editor:

Seeing the citizens of Charleston, S.C., raise their hands in unity after that terrible act of terror made me so proud. I wept through my tears with them.

We talk on forgiveness but to see those citizens at that historic church actually forgive brought the real meaning of forgiveness to me. They stood united against an evil young man.

I could still hear Kate Smith and Whitney Houston sing "God Bless America" with our flag waving in proudly in the air! No one could sing "God Bless America" like those two.

To see that young man trample our flag made me angry. Do I sound like a patriot? So be it!

Kathleen Parker and Michael Gerson wrote wonderful columns in The Sentinel-Record of June 24 regarding the strength of love.

May I share this short poem I wrote some years ago, it's called "Neighbors."

Neighbors of the world,

reach out to each other.

A child's tears are colorless.

A handshake is neither

black or white.

Despair and desolation are

not determined by color or creed.

Hope, charity and love are international

Laughter belong to the world.

God bless America,
