Sick of diatribes

Dear editor:

Is anyone else sick and tired of the back and forth diatribes over science and religion between a handful of letter writers? Attention Lowell Price, Mike Nunn, George Lindholm, and others: None of you is going to ever change the other's mind. Quit taking up space that could be used for legitimate topics.

I believe in God and science, and my definition of both probably doesn't mesh with theirs, so why bother?

I do know my electric bill is about to go up 13 percent thanks to Entergy Arkansas, and my elected state officials did nothing to prevent it. Guess what? Jesus Christ is not walking through that door to make up the difference.

Those same elected officials, Reps. Bruce Cozart and John Vining, Sens. Bill Sample and Alan Clark, turned in a cumulative $102,711 for expense reimbursement for taxpayers, us, last year, then got a base salary increase of 143 percent this past session. Daniel is not walking through that door, and certainly not jumping into that lion's den.

Congress is about to pass the biggest trade bill in history, the Trans Pacific Partnership Act, which I believe will be the death bell for the American middle class. The 12 disciples are not walking through that door to stop it.

City Manager David Watkins, Mayor Ruth Carney, and the Board of Directors continue to allow the rubble of the Majestic Hotel to be an eyesore ruining downtown and our tourist economy. Noah and his arc are not walking through that door to clean it up.

The recidivism rate for Arkansas state prisoners is now at 28.5 percent. Moses is not walking through that door, parting the Red Sea, and fixing that.

Nunn, Lindholm, Price and others need to write about something relevant that they can affect change in, or quit writing. I'm all for freedom of speech and giving everyone a forum, but there's only so much space and ink devoted to this important part of the paper, so don't waste it.
