Smoke testing subject

of town hall meeting

A town-hall meeting will be held from 9:30-10:30 a.m. July 9 at the Ouachita Building at the Ponce de Leon Center, 1101 DeSoto Blvd., to present to the public what to expect with upcoming summer smoke testing of the Village's wastewater gravity sewer infrastructure.

Workers will be accessing manholes in order to "smoke test" sewer pipes and locate defects in the system. Smoke will be visible from vent stacks on houses and holes in the ground.

The smoke is safe and nontoxic and will never enter a home unless there is defective plumbing or dried-up drain traps. The testing will take a couple of days.

All the details of the smoke testing will be covered in the town hall meeting being presented by the RJN Group.

Area beaches staffed

with Beach Hosts

Beach Hosts will be part of the mix at Hot Springs Village beaches this summer.

The summer season brings more guests of members to the Village, and for this reason management felt it was time to upgrade how things are handled in the beach areas.

Stephanie Heffer, HSV director of Lifestyle and Community Development, said, "The Recreation Department is committed to creating a family friendly atmosphere at all our beaches. We have implemented a Beach Host program to staff these areas with paid employees empowered to enforce our rules, and ensure that those utilizing these areas are either members or guests of members. We are confident this program will be successful, and ensure a great summer for everyone to enjoy."

HSV Fire Department

to test fire hydrants

The HSV Fire Department will be out the next few months performing hydrant maintenance, flushing and cleaning. Residents need to be aware that there could be discolored water and should check their water by filling a glass and checking the clarity. If it is discolored, members are encouraged to refrain from washing any white clothing until it clears up. The water is fine for consumption and cooking. The clearing process may take a couple of days.

Fire Department sponsors

'Adopt a Hydrant' program

The HSV Fire Department is sponsoring an "Adopt a Hydrant" program, and residents can get help get them painted.

All fire hydrants that are red are available prospects for painting and red paint will be provided by the HSV Fire Department at any fire station.

Residents can also get registered and send pictures of their finished product to [email protected]. First, second and third place winners of the "Adopt a Hydrant" contest will be announced sometime in late August.
