HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- Hot Springs Village Rotary Club held its annual change of gavel event June 25 at Diamante Country Club.

The lighthearted theme, "Carnival," underscored the focus of the evening, which was the installation of new officers for the 2015-16 Rotary year. Jeff Hollansworth, outgoing president, passed the gavel to Linda Johnson, the incoming president. Other officers included president-elect, Donna Aylward, vice president, Hank Matthew, Grover Scarborough, secretary and Dennis Ford, treasurer.

Board positions for chairs of the various service areas were also announced, including Dennis Brown, secretary of Rotary Charity Corp., Ed Reinsch, Club Service, and Gary Jacobs, Grants.

Incoming fundraising chair, Spence Jordan, replaced Steven Wright, and Ross Johnson handed off the Public Relations position to Jerry Sorenson.

Nancy Hendricks was named membership chair, Frederik Kalsbeek will lead the Rotary Foundation, and Paul Bridges was placed in charge of Special Projects. Larry Wilson was named webmaster, and has started adding videos to the club's weekly bulletin, available at the club website.

Anthony Cifelli was named assistant district governor. He will assist the district governor by serving as the connection between the club and Rotary District 6170, which includes Arkadelphia, Benton-Bauxite-Bryant, Conway, El Dorado, Magnolia, Malvern, Monticello, Morrilton, Pine Bluff, Russellville and Warren in addition to Hot Springs-area sister clubs such as Hot Springs National Park Rotary Club and Scenic 7.

A high point of the change of gavel event was the presentation of a special "birthday check." To help the club fund its good works, it is customary for Rotarians to present a birthday check in an amount equivalent to their number of years. Longtime Rotarian Ed Lampman remains the club's most senior member and presented the club with a check for $98 following his birthday on June 11.

Rotary membership is open to all. The Hot Springs Village club meets at 7 a.m. Thursdays in the Fireside Dining Room at Good Sam's, 121 Cortez Road.
