Bills cause for alarm

Dear editor:

It is alarming to see some of the bills/laws that our Congress and state Legislature have proposed/passed. Many, many of these are written and funded by various, deep-pocketed special interest groups. The purpose of these bills is usually very clear, but only if you get a chance to read the exact language of the document, not just an abstract title. It would be interesting to see the background of the proposed handgun law changes for colleges and universities when every college board has voted down the need or desire for additional guns on their campuses.

Unfortunately, our collective voting record (about a 35 percent turnout) has brought us to this point. Corporate money, power and greed, along with selfish personal self-indulgence, have smelled blood in the water and almost taken complete control of our once proud, fair nation.

"Of the people, by the people, and for the people" has been tainted to -- of the very wealthy, by the special interest, and for the corporations.

When the poor and powerless only have crumbs left on their plate, the same greedy, self-absorbed blobs will then plot to take their plates.
