Dear editor: Stop puppy mills

Dear editor:

One puppy mill bust in Arkansas is too many; there have been several in the past few months. The natural beauty of this lovely state becomes jaded when we are overcome with scenes of terrified, neglected and sickly dogs being "rescued" from such horrific circumstances.

Good and decent people know that the deplorable conditions of puppy mills are not humanely acceptable. Yet, the practice continues by folks who care nothing of animal welfare, but see it as a way to make some dollars. People who mistreat animals to make money by breeding them endlessly, provide inadequate food and water, no medical care, a lack of shelter, are considered disrespectful and dishonest, but many get away with it because of the lack of consequences due to weak and unenforceable laws. It's time to either outlaw puppy mills or regulate them. It's time for the lovely state of Arkansas to say, "No more cruelty."

I have started a petition to end puppy mills in Arkansas. Please feel free to go to my Facebook page and sign your name.
