Dear editor: Amendment suggested

Dear editor:

Page 3 of your March 25 edition has inspired me to offer some thoughts. The first article is headlined "Tax credit for low-income Arkansans rejected by House panel." The idea is not to allow a state version of the federal Earned Income Tax Credit. It seems this bill only assists the poor and does nothing to help those in the higher income brackets. Apparently Rep. Collins feels people earning minimum wage don't need or deserve help any more than he does. After all, we don't want them getting comfortable in their poverty.

The next two articles, "House panel endorses bill to restart executions" and "Proposed Ten Commandments display advances to Senate" provide an interesting dilemma. "Thou shalt not kill" may have to be amended with: "except in the case of state-ordered executions." Other exceptions could be: "standing your ground" and any "declared or undeclared war." Perhaps nine Commandments would be enough.
