Man found with 58 grams of marijuana

An 18-year-old man was arrested Thursday evening and charged with possession of a schedule VI controlled substance with the purpose to deliver, a felony punishable by up to six years in prison, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.

Laken S. Bell, who listed a 163 Lakes Forest Shores Drive address, was later released on a $4,500 bond. Bell is due in Garland County District Court on April 7.

Shortly after 6:30 p.m., Cpl. Josh Cannon was traveling at the 1200 block of Airport Road when he observed a vehicle run a red light. He initiated a traffic stop and the driver reportedly slammed on his brakes and stopped in the middle of traffic. Cannon made contact with the driver, identified as Bell, and noticed his eyes were red and smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle.

According to the affidavit, Cannon informed Bell he stopped him for running the red light and asked if he had any marijuana. Bell gave Cannon a pipe with residue in it and when he asked if that was all, Bell reached over the seat and handed him a black lockbox. Inside the box, Cannon found 58 grams of a substance identified as marijuana, four pipes used for smoking, two grinders and two sets of digital scales. Bell was placed into custody at that time.

At the Garland County Detention Center, Arkansas State Police Trooper Josh Heckel seized $547 from Bell. According to the affidavit, Bell stated he sold marijuana and was trying to save a little more money before he quit.
