Rams finish tournament with late win, early loss

LITTLE ROCK -- Lakeside followed a big late-night win with an early run-rule loss in finish its four-games in the Central Arkansas Invitational.

Friday night, the Rams scored eight runs in the first three innings and coasted behind Kyle Lightsey's pitching to its second win of the day, 10-1 over Russellville in five innings at Lamar Porter Field. They struggled at the plate and on the mound Saturday at the same site, falling to Greenwood 13-1 in six frames.

Lakeside (4-3) when 2-2 for the tournament, losing 3-2 to North Little Rock Thursday and defeating Alma 7-2 Friday.

Against Russellville, Jon Youngblood had an RBI double by and Jake Palmer a two-run single in the Rams' first, and they added three second-inning runs on a wild pitch, passed ball and Andrew Spakes' RBI single for a 6-1 lead. Palmer scored on a balk and Tanner Rice on an error in the fourth, and the Rams added two runs each in the third and fourth.

Youngblood, Spakes and Hayden Lindsey each when 2 for 3, Lakeside finishing with seven hits.

Lightsey (1-0) allowed an unearned run and two hits in four innings, walking one and striking out three. Lindsey pitched the fifth, walking and striking out one batter each.

Greenwood broke open the Rams' quick turn-around with three runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth. Kyle Watson hit a two-run home run in the fifth, winning pitcher Ryan Daggs adding an RBI double for a 6-1 lead. Daggs capped the sixth with a three-run homer.

Weston Sagely went 3 for 4 to lead a 14-hit attack. Daggs, Chris Sunde and Max Higgins each went 2 for 4.

Daggs when all six innings, striking out three and walking one. Spakes (1-1), threw a no-hitter against Hope on March 19, allowed five runs (four earned) in 4 2-3 innings.

The Rams resume 5A-South play against White Hall Tuesday at home.

Lake Hamilton played late Saturday in the championship game of Magnolia's Spring Break Tournament. The Wolves and Lady Wolves, who played late Saturday in Hope's round-robin event, face 6A-South rival Pine Bluff Tuesday at home. The Wolves play non-conference Malvern Monday in Pearcy.
