Easter art

The Sentinel-Record/Elisha Morrison

Elaine Henderson, left, and her grandson, Robert, 8, check the color of an egg while learning how to create pysanky, or Ukrainian eggs, at Garvan Woodland Gardens on Sunday. The "Eggscellent Easter!" class was taught by Bob Byers, associate executive director at the gardens. Pysanky comes from a word that means "to write" in English. Participants were taught to draw on eggs with heated wax and then dye each layer. When done, the wax is melted off to reveal the final product. Byers said pysanky is one of the world's oldest art forms.
