Man arrested after shooting

A local man was arrested on a felony battery charge early Sunday after he allegedly shot a man who was involved in an altercation with his sister.

Anthony Ray Lambert, 30, of 705 Ward St., was taken into custody at his residence around 4:45 a.m. and charged with first-degree battery, punishable by up to 20 years in prison. He was later released on $5,000 bond and is set to appear April 7 in Garland County District Court.

According to Hot Springs police reports, shortly before 2:30 a.m., Officer Threadgill responded to a shooting that had just occurred outside the Ward Street residence and upon arrival found the victim, 35, lying in the street with two gunshot wounds to his right upper leg.

It was noted the victim had lost a lot of blood and was in and out of consciousness before he was transported by LifeNet to an area hospital for treatment.

Lambert, his sister, 25, and his mother were on the scene when police arrived and Lambert reportedly made a spontaneous comment to Threadgill that he accidentally shot the victim and the gun used was on the coffee table inside, where it was later recovered by officers.

The sister and mother both told police that Lambert shot the victim while he and the sister were involved in a physical altercation. Lambert and both witnesses were taken to the police department for further questioning and officers recovered two spent cartridge cases on the street near where the victim was found.

Once at the police station, Lambert and the witnesses were interviewed by HSPD Detective Lampinen and both witnesses stated the victim and the sister had been in an argument that turned physical which had started inside the house and then moved out into the street.

The victim reportedly punched the sister in the face several times and when the mother tried to get the victim off her daughter she got knocked down too. At one point, the victim had knocked the sister down in the street and Lambert pulled out a gun and shot the victim twice.

A neighbor reportedly told police she heard the disturbance and looked out to see the victim attacking the sister.

The report notes the sister had very minor injuries and she stated she never felt her life was in danger and that the victim was not armed with any kind of weapon during the incident.
