Man arrested for alleged sexual assault

A local man was arrested early Monday on a felony warrant stemming from allegations he molested a 10-year-old girl last summer.

David Randall Griffin Sr., 53, who lists an address of 114 Jordan St., was taken into custody around 5:30 a.m. and charged with second-degree sexual assault, punishable by up to 20 years in prison. He remained in custody Monday afternoon in lieu of $100,000 bond and is set to appear April 14 in Garland County District Court.

A court order was also issued Monday by Judge David Switzer barring Griffin from any contact with the victim or her father or from going to the girl's church.

According to the affidavit, on Dec. 6, 2014, the victim disclosed that when she stayed at the suspect's then-residence on Woolridge Street during the summer of 2014 the suspect touched her on numerous occasions "in a sexual way."

The victim was interviewed at the Cooper Anthony Mercy Child Advocacy Center on Dec. 8 and reportedly stated she would sometimes have sleepovers at the suspect's house. When she would sleep on the sofa by herself, she would sometimes be awakened by the suspect.

She states he reached under her shirt and fondled her while smoking a cigarette. She said this would usually occur during the early morning hours between 3:30 and 5:30 a.m. before the suspect's wife would get up for the day.

The affidavit notes the victim was "emotional and cried while describing how this made her feel."

Based on the victim's statements and further investigation, a warrant for Griffin was issued on Feb. 26. Griffin lists no prior criminal history, according to bond documents.
