Historic Eureka MBC to celebrate 132 years

Historic Eureka Missionary Baptist Church, 721 Gaines Ave., will celebrate its 132nd Church Anniversary at 4 p.m. Sunday.

The special guests will be the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and their pastor, the Rev. Al Brewer, from Magnolia.

The theme for this year's anniversary is "An Old House With A New Covenant," Jeremiah 31:31 ESV.

Eureka Missionary Baptist Church was organized on May 5, 1883, by a few families and their neighbors in the Gaines and Eureka Street area who decided to organize a place of worship under a brush arbor under the leadership of the Rev. B.B. Diloney.

Diloney was chosen as the first pastor of the newly organized church. During the past 132 years, Eureka has been a beaconing light of faith, hope and assurance for the citizens of the Gaines Street and surrounding communities.

On Dec. 4, 2013, Eureka was granted "Arkansas State Historic Site" status by the Arkansas State Review Board, which approved the induction of Eureka Missionary Baptist Church by the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program and May 18, 2014, a historical marker was unveiled.
