Wernes goes deep in ninth, Razorbacks rally past Gators

HOOVER, Ala. -- Arkansas used two homers in the ninth inning -- including a go-ahead, two-run shot by Bobby Wernes -- to beat Florida 7-6 Wednesday night into Thursday in the Southeastern Conference tournament.

The Razorbacks (35-20) trailed for much of the game. Florida (40-16) used a three-run fifth inning to jump ahead 6-3 and looked in control until Arkansas' stunning rally.

Arkansas trailed 6-4 entering the ninth before Andrew Benintendi led off with his league-leading 18th homer of the season to pull the Razorbacks within one.

One out later, Rick Nomura walked and then Wernes hit a homer over the left field fence that pushed Arkansas ahead 7-6. Zach Jackson pitched a scoreless ninth for the Razorbacks to earn his sixth save.

Florida's J.J. Schwarz finished with three hits, including two doubles, and drove in three runs.

The game lasted nearly four hours and didn't end until about 1:30 a.m. local time.

Texas A&M 6, Vanderbilt 1

HOOVER, Ala. -- Blake Allemand hit two home runs and Matt Kent threw a complete game to lead Texas A&M over Vanderbilt on Thursday in the SEC tournament.

Allemand hit a two-run homer in the second inning and a solo shot in the fourth to help the Aggies (46-10) build an early 6-0 lead. The left-handed Kent (7-1) did the rest, holding the Commodores (40-18) down to just one run on four hits.

Texas A&M won't play again until Saturday, while Vanderbilt will face Alabama today in an elimination game.

Dansby Swanson hit his 12th homer of the year in the fourth inning that accounted for the Commodores' only run. Vanderbilt's Carson Fulmer (11-2) took the loss, giving up six runs over five innings. He gave up three homers.

Florida 11, Auburn 2

HOOVER, Ala. -- Josh Tobias went four for five with two RBI and Florida knocked Auburn out of the SEC tournament Thursday.

The Gators (41-16) scored eight runs on seven hits in the third inning, four of them unearned, in the elimination game.

Peter Alonso was three for three and drove in three runs while Mike Rivera had a two-run double in the big inning.

Alabama 4, Missouri 3

HOOVER, Ala. -- Will Haynie's leadoff homer in the bottom of the seventh inning helped Alabama beat Missouri on Thursday.

The Crimson Tide (32-28) also got a two-run, two-out single from Cody Henry in the sixth to rally from a 3-1 deficit. Thomas Burrows retired the side in the ninth for his seventh save, getting two strikeouts.

Missouri (30-28) had moved ahead on Brett Peel's two-run double in the fifth.

LSU 9, Auburn 8

HOOVER, Ala. -- LSU rallied from a five-run deficit to beat Auburn Wednesday night.

Auburn jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning and led 8-3 after four innings, but LSU (47-9) answered with six runs in the fifth to take the lead.
