Loy Mauch, left, commander of James M. Keller Camp 648, Sons of Confederate Veterans, presented an award of $500 and Certificate of Appreciation to his daughter, Scout Mauch, a 12th-grader at DeSoto Academy, in West Helena, for winning first place in the annual historical essay contest sponsored by the Arkansas Division. Her essay was entitled, "The Palmyra Massacre."
