HS Flute Ensemble to offer songs of patriotism

Hot Springs Flute Ensemble will present a free patriotic concert at 3 p.m. Sunday in Anthony Chapel at Garvan Woodland Gardens, 550 Arkridge Road.

Soprano Robin Williams will lead a selection of singalong patriotic favorites and colors will be presented by Hot Springs Boy Scout Troop 2 and Pack 10 Cub Scouts. Complimentary flags will be distributed by members of the John Percifull Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Donations will be requested for the ensemble's educational fund.

Sigilda Naidin, completing her first season as ensemble leader, will conduct the group through 13 American patriotic selections, concluding with John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever" featuring multiple piccoloists. Another Sousa favorite, "The Liberty Bell," has been arranged for flute choir by Ricky Lombardo. Popular folk tunes of the era, including "Songs of the Civil War" and "Civil War Suite," will also be presented. The concert will conclude with a novelty arrangement of "Yankee Doodle on Tour."

Members set to perform are Jackie Flowers, principal piccolo, and C flutists Donna Toler, Regenia Bettis, Payton Teague, Becky Harvey, Sue Kelly, Marilyn Coffman (also percussion), Janet Moore, Hal Thompson, Marcia Gilmore, Ann Weik, Riddhi Modi, Marilyn Lihs, Priscilla Wacaster, Leoni Bermejo, Steve Bonner, Kajal Bharany and Emily Gentles.

Alto flutists will be Sara Ferril, Makayla Lovell, Leah Kuhn, Ann Smedley, Karrie George and Kathy Skinner. Bass flutists are Sarah Minor, Beverly Hegwood, Rhonda Hall (also percussion), Ronald Johnson and John Skinner. Contra bass flutists will be Kristin Grant and Sarah-Marie Linneman.
