First Baptist 'Sharing' with the community

A free lunch will be served in the First Baptist Church Family Life Center, 2350 Central Ave., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thanksgiving Day for members of the community who do not have a place to enjoy the holiday meal. The meal, called "Sharing Thanksgiving," is being organized by members of Tom Pullig's Connect Group.

Central Baptist welcomes interim pastor and wife

Central Baptist Church, 1035 Central Ave., welcomed their new interim pastor, the Rev. Tommy Weems and his wife, Judy, on Nov. 8. Weems received his Master of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas. He has also studied at New Orleans Theological Seminary, Louisiana. He has served as both full time and interim positions in Louisiana, California, Texas and Missouri. Central Baptist has Sunday school at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday followed by worship service at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday Bible study begins at 6:15 p.m.

First Baptist holds mission conference

First Baptist Church, 2350 Central Ave., is holding a Nik Ripken Mission Conference through Sunday. The conference is led by Nik Ripken and his wife. The conference started Friday and continues at 7:30 a.m. today until 4 p.m. Ripken will speak at the 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services followed by a light lunch provided by the Women on Missions group. It will conclude with a final session. The sessions are free to First Baptist Church members. The Ripkens have served as missionaries and produced two best selling books "The Insanity of God" and "The Insanity of Obedience."

Washington Memorial to honor pastor.

Washington Memorial, 423 Grove St., will honor Pastor Stephen Wright's 10 years of service at 3 p.m. Sunday. The theme for the celebration will be "Celebrating the Laborer that Dwells Among Us." Superintendent David Withers, of Living Waters Church of God in Christ, will bring the message with the choir providing songs of praise. Wright succeeded his grandfather, the late Superintendent Ernest Wright, as minister of the church.

Gethsemane to hold Men/ Brotherhood Anniversary

Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church, 120 Blake St., will hold their Annual Men/Brotherhood Anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday. The theme for the special service will be "Men Rededicating to God." Pastor Leon R. Massey will bring the message. Guests will be Roanoke Baptist Church along with Roanoke Men's Choir.

Holy Ghost Headquarters tailgate party

Holy Ghost Headquarters, 1900 Hobson Ave., will hold a tailgating party at 5 p.m. today to kick off celebration of James and Lasonia Broadway's 19 years of ministry. The event will include encouragement for the Broadways, free food, silent bake sale auction, $1 raffles and door prizes. All are welcome.
