Dear editor: Common sense gun control

Dear editor:

Another school massacre and more outrage. Our cowards in Congress will, once again, do nothing. They are so afraid of the NRA and the garbage that they preach, that it is just sickening. And too many in the public believe their garbage, too.

But being in favor of tighter gun control does not equate to taking away your right to bear arms. It does, however, impede the ability of crazy people or people with an agenda from legally obtaining the hand guns and assault rifles that they use. Hunting rifles are not the problem. Once again, no one hunts with hand guns or assault rifles. Or they shouldn't.

And the legal sale is not the only problem. As I have stated before, too many guns are stolen out of cars that are owned by people with conceal/carry permits and there is no penalty for not securing these weapons. When I can walk into a Wal-Mart and walk out with a shotgun and two boxes of ammo inside 20 minutes, there is a problem. There is no way, no way, anyone can tell what kind of person I am by simply making a phone call. And at gun shows, guns are sold by private individuals to private individuals all the time with no checks at all.

I know people who have over 15 guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition, for what? If that house happens to catch on fire, everyone better duck! We are the only country in the entire world that has as many guns as we do. We have more guns that cars! This is just insane.

Again, I am not advocating taking away our guns, I have one. I am looking for common sense in the gun control laws. A quick phone call is not enough, private sales are way too risky and need to be eliminated and the nonsecurity of privately owned guns has to be eliminated. Gun locks and safes must be mandated. Leaving a loaded gun in the car has to be outlawed.

I ask our senators and representatives to put on their big-boy pants and do some good. Pass some gun controls that make sense.
