Dear editor: Killings out of control

Dear editor:

It is obvious that school shootings are going to continue. It is just as obvious that the crazies are never going to have a problem getting firearms.

I guess I am guilty as accused, seeing as to how I have many times been accused of being too logical. The way I see it is, if we arm security in our schools, there is a much better chance that, at the very least, fewer people will be killed when another nut decides to make a name for him or herself.

Killings in this country are definitely out of control. I believe that where people are known to be armed, we have fewer killings than where the bad guys know they have no opposition. Look at Chicago, New Orleans, Philadelphia and Detroit. The United States is in the top 10 countries on the planet with the most killings. Take those four cities out of the picture, and this country is in the bottom 10.

Maybe I am nuts, but to me actions speak louder than words. I have a hard time understanding why the president keeps harping about everything but the more than 2,300 killings that have happened in Chicago already this year, for instance.

A friend in Australia told me that the figures reported for his country are not "spot on." We need armed guards in all of our schools. It pains me to say that, but if anyone can come up with anything better, please put it out there.

And please, don't say more gun control. That just insults the intelligence of any sane thinking person. The old saying that when guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns has always been true, and always will be.

Thank you.
