Flag display 'garish'

Dear editor:

There have been several letters praising the American flag set on private property near the bypass and thereby thrust in the face of every driver going past. Showing patriotism is one thing -- the flag is in front of government buildings, one can join in the singing of the national anthem at events, fly the flag in front of your home on July Fourth, salute it as it is marched past in a parade or simply hold thoughts in your heart as to what "Old Glory" may mean to you personally.

However, the public display of such huge flags is garish and totally without taste, the type of thing one sees in front of used car lots and advertisements for Hollywood extravagances.

I would imagine that some others may also find the display offensive to their sensibilities.
