Students in Lauren Wilson's kindergarten class at Gardner STEM Magnet School used apples as subjects during their math investigations. They teamed up with "math buddies" in Gerald McAnulty's fourth-grade class to conduct various measurements and used the data to construct hats. They further related the STEM project to literacy and music by reading and singing "Way Up High in the Apple Tree" and "10 Apples Up on Top."
