Happy tantrums

Dear editor:

The Viewpoints page on Oct. 7, 2015, was a wealth of inspiration and information. "The poverty doctrine" by Bradley R. Gitz is an excellent primer for anyone starting out on the study of economics. There is another online called "I, Pencil." I can't remember the author's name; the creation of wealth benefits all, and the creation of more government hurts all.

"Doc" Crawford speaks of ways to handle classified information. If we go back further, men used to carry dispatches in their socks, inside their boots, thinking this was the most secure system, but their enemies learned how to undress them. Private servers can and will be hacked into. At least the government equipment has better firewalls. I just don't see why we should serve up our national secrets on a silver platter, the way Hillary Clinton seems to have done.

"Doc" Crawford ends his letter: "They (meaning Republicans) are desperate to keep the White House and take us back in this great country another 50 years." This country has elected and re-elected a Democrat, who has the White House now and has all but destroyed the private enterprise system, increased the national debt to $19 trillion and increasing yet. I think almost anything would be better than continuing what we have had for almost two terms. Thank God for term limits.

Michael Gerson sums up his column, "The best way to restore faith in our democratic structures is to spend a lifetime trying to make them work, like Hubert Humphrey, Jack Kemp, Henry Jackson, Ronald Reagan, Ted Kennedy (and others, from both political parties), did. But it is easier, and surely satisfying in its own way, to throw a tantrum when democracy disappoints you."

Happy tantrums, "Doc" Crawford. I sincerely feel like the country will move forward now.
