Dear editor: Special Olympics 'thanks'

Dear editor:

Lakeside High School recently hosted the Special Olympics District 10 Volleyball tournament on Friday, Sept. 25. This was an amazing event, with 132 athletes participating and over 70 volunteers! A big thank you to the Lakeside Volleyball team, along with Coach Frizzell-Kizer and Coach Davis. Their coaching helped to create a fun, competitive day for the participating athletes. This year the Partnership Club and Ms. Bolding were there to assist the athletes and serve lunch to the participants, coaches and volunteers. This group also instructed the athletes on some fun dance moves. Also, thank you to Lakeside High School Cheerleaders and Mrs. Morton for helping kick off the Opening Ceremonies!

Thank you to Brett Stineman for play-calling the tournament games, Isaac Bodemann and Summer Coker for score keeping, Molly Stineman and Olivia Lawrence for assisting with awards. Thanks to Lanette Stineman for managing awards.

Special Olympics is very fortunate to have the continued support of Lakeside administration, including Mr. Cook, Mr. Orr, Mr. McLaughlin, Mr. Pierce and Mr. Landry. A special thank you to Courtney Eubanks, Lakeside resource director, for her involvement to expand and improve this event each year.

A heartfelt thank you to our sponsors: Regions Bank, CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs, Tapp Law Firm, Rave Grafix, and Sam's Club. Their involvement was critical to the success of this event!

Special Olympics is an event allowing people with intellectual disabilities to participate in competitive sports, giving them opportunities to develop fitness, demonstrate courage and experience joy! The success of the event was best measured by the smiles of all involved!
