Beard, Williams plead not guilty to forgery charges

FAYETTEVILLE -- Sophomore point guard Anton Beard, suspended indefinitely from the Razorback, basketball team but still attending the University of Arkansas, and former Razorback basketball player Jacorey Williams, recently transferring to Middle Tennessee State, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges of first-degree forgery.

They now await an Oct. 27 trial date in Washington County Circuit Court.

Fayetteville police reported that surveillance cameras detected Beard, Williams and redshirting Razorback basketball player Dustin Thomas spending counterfeit money.

All reported they spent the money but said they didn't know the money was counterfeit.

They were arrested in July.

Thomas, a transfer from the University of Colorado also suspended from the team but attending UA classes, awaits arraignment next week.

Williams was dismissed from the team following two altercations at a Fayetteville nightclub before transferring to Middle Tennessee State where the senior must first redshirt before having one year of eligibility.

Unrelated to Wednesday's court proceedings, Ted Kapita, a forward who signed with Arkansas but did not meet eligibility standards, reportedly is turning professional to play overseas.
