LH student attends HOBY seminar

PEARCY -- Lake Hamilton student Keely Stofer was chosen to attend the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Seminar held on the HSU campus this summer.

The Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership is an organization dedicated to "training and nurturing the young leaders of tomorrow." Its mission is to provide lifelong leadership development opportunities that empower youth to achieve their highest potential.

Students are chosen for their academic and leadership skills. The seminar provides opportunities for students to meet and converse with leaders in their community in fields of volunteerism, media, education, philanthropy and politics, among others. It allows the students to enhance their leadership and teamwork skills, as well as form lifelong friendships with young leaders from other schools.

Since its inception in 1958, more than 435,000 students have attended HOBY programs. Each year in late July, HOBY has a World Leadership Congress hosted in a major US city with HOBY students from all over the world. Famous alumni include former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, Miami Heat basketball player Shane Battier, host and designer of TLC's "Trading Spaces," Doug Wilson, and "Apprentice" star and entrepreneur, Toral Mehta.
