Jackson House says 'thanks'

Dear editor:

I would like to thank our community for responding to our need for food and donations the past two weeks. It has been an amazing experience to see how caring and concerned people truly are! It has been overwhelming this summer with the needs of families.

Steve Mross came to do an interview for the anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and saw how bare the shelves were. He immediately started letting people know and wrote an article. Very quickly, US Stations and Noalmark Broadcasting jumped in with interviews and public service announcements. The speed of The Sentinel-Record, radio and even Facebook is amazing. There is no me or them when hurting people need help. Only us, and we work together.

The results are that our community came together to help us provide emergency food and other necessities to those in crisis. Individuals, churches, businesses, organizations, schools -- they all care for the suffering of others. I cannot express how much people who come to us with an uncertain future appreciate your compassion. Feel free to stop by and let them tell you, give you the hugs and smiles, they can't be beat.

With heartfelt appreciation,

Janie Smith
