Purse snatching draws two felony charges

A Pearcy man who allegedly stole a purse from a vehicle on Wednesday was subsequently charged with two felonies.

Travis Don Edgin, 25, was charged with breaking or entering and theft of property, both punishable by up to six years in prison. He remained custody Thursday in lieu of bonds totaling $5,000 and is due in Garland County District Court on Sept. 15.

Shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a breaking or entering at 102 E. Maurice St. According to the affidavit, the victim witnessed the suspect, later identified as Edgin, running from her vehicle with her purse. Other witnesses also observed Edgin running from the scene and stated he dropped the purse, which the victim identified as hers. The victim stated she entered her place of employment and left the door of her vehicle partially open and when she returned, Edgin was near the area with her purse.

Edgin was later detained near the intersection of East Maurice Street and Gaines Avenue.

ā€¢ A 57-year-old woman who reported false alarms on her neighbor to the Hot Springs Fire Department was arrested Wednesday afternoon.

Wellington

Phyllis Sims Wellington, who listed a Melwood Street address, was charged with communicating a false alarm, a felony punishable by up to six years in prison, and harassment, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. She was later released on bonds totaling $3,500 and is due in district court Sept. 15.

According to the affidavit, during the first week of August, Wellington contacted the HSFD and reported three false alarm calls. Wellington reported an illegal burning at 310 Melwood St. Aug. 3, but when the fire department responded, there were no signs of a fire at the location.

Wellington allegedly reported a grass fire at 205 James St. on Aug. 5, which was also filed as a false alarm. Wellington called the fire department a third time on Aug. 7 and reported an illegal burning at 205 James St., but no fire was found. Officer Scrimshire responded to Wellington's address and she stated she made the call and could see smoke coming from 205 James St.

On Aug. 4 a victim also filed a report with the Hot Springs Police Department and stated her neighbor, Wellington, was harassing her. The victim stated that, over a period of time, Wellington had yelled at her family and told them she had a gun. The victim also stated Wellington told the fire department she was illegally burning when there was no fire.

ā€¢ A local man on probation was arrested Wednesday when probation officers located firearms in his residence.

Young

Marcus Neil Young, 25, was taken into custody at his residence at 299 Cochise St. shortly before 4 p.m. He was charged with possession of a firearm by certain persons, a felony punishable by up to six years in prison. He was later released on a $2,500 bond and is due in district court on Sept. 15.

Shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday, an Arkansas Community Correction probation and parole officer conducted a visit at Young's residence. During a search, the officer located two shotguns under a couch in the living room. Young was convicted of a felony May 21, 2012, in Garland County.

ā€¢ After turning off electrical appliances in a rental home and allegedly threatening to beat up the renters, a local man was taken into custody Wednesday.

Vicentic

Dragan Vicentic, 50, who listed a Winding Ridge Street address, was charged with harassment, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail. He was later released on a $1,000 bond and is due in district court on Sept. 15.

According to the affidavit, two victims stated that between July 13 and Aug. 2 their landlord, Vicentic, began harassing them. They stated around July 13 he served them a 10-day Notice to Quit, which they claimed was not valid because Vicentic had accepted their rent for the month. According to the affidavit, Vicentic became angry and threatened to beat up one of the victims.

On July 23, Vicentic served the renters another 10-day Notice to Quit and continued to enter the residence when they were not home and turned off electrical appliances and the air conditioner.

According to the affidavit, Vicentic admitted he went into the residence. He also allegedly threatened to have the couple's belongings removed from the home.

ā€¢ Hot Springs police officers arrested a 28-year-old man Wednesday who threatened to kill his roommate.

Finley

Jeffery Finley was taken into custody at his residence at 212 Cypress St. shortly before 12:30 p.m. He was charged with second-degree terroristic threatening, a felony punishable by up to a year in jail. Finley remained in custody Thursday in lieu of a $1,000 bond and is due in district court on Sept. 15.

The victim stated on Friday she was threatened by Finley. She stated she was not in a relationship with the suspect but he believed they were. According to the affidavit, the victim attempted to take her children to the doctor and Finley stated, "If you don't come back I will kill you." Finley allegedly placed a machete against her throat.

According to the affidavit, the victim also stated Finley threatened her with the machete six times that week.
