HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- The Waypoint at DeSoto Marina will have its grand opening event Saturday, and in anticipation of heavy traffic, there is a plan in place to facilitate movement.
All egress traffic will be detoured to Los Lagos Drive, to exit on Calella. Ingress traffic will be open from DeSoto Boulevard to Los Lagos. Barriers and signs will be posted.
And to help celebrate the Labor Day weekend, Waypoint will be open for the grand opening from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday. Its location is 120 Marina Road, just off Los Lagos Drive, and the phone number is 501-922-5511.
Guests can stop by and sample from the coffee bar, and have tacos from Little Penguin Taco Stand. In addition, there will be organized races with prizes and opportunities to try out SUP boards and kayaks for free.
Entertainment will begin with Rupert Wates, the September Rock Porch singer and songwriter, who will perform at 5 p.m. Shawn James and the Shapeshifters will follow at 7 p.m. Both performance will be set up outside, so lawn chairs are encouraged.
Wates was born in London and studied at Oxford University. He's been a full-time song man since the late 1990s, writing material in a wide variety of styles and genres.
Shawn James and the Shapeshifters is a Southern Rock outfit, now touring behind their album, "The Gospel According to Shawn James and the Shapeshifters."
The Waypoint at DeSoto Marina also features a beer and wine selection, large deck lounge facing Lake DeSoto, a bait and tackle shop, and an HSV Basecamp equipment rental hub.
