Hosta collector to speak to Ouachita Hosta group
Ouachita Hosta and Shade Plant Society will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Magnolia Room at Garvan Woodland Gardens, 550 Arkridge Road. Snacks and socializing start at 9:30 a.m. The speaker will be Judy Groover, immediate past director of the Dixie Regional Hosta Society and she served as president of the former Central Alabama Hosta Society. She is treasurer on the executive board of the American Hosta Society, a member of the American Hosta Growers Association and owner of Hostas on the Hill. Groover is a Master Gardener and a former president of the Birmingham Fern Society. She has been seriously gardening for more than 45 years. She started collecting hostas in 1999 after she retired, and has more than 275 different varieties. Guests are welcome.
