Milena Erceg has been promoted to mutuels manager at Oaklawn Park after serving as assistant manager of mutuels for the last several years.
Erceg has risen through the ranks in the Mutuel Department, first starting as a teller in 2002, then assuming and mastering various functions in the office. Now, with her new position, she has full oversight of a department that employs more than 500 residents during the live season and processes nearly $250,000,000 in annual wagers. She is the first female to ever direct the Mutuels Department in Oaklawn's 112-year history.
"For the past few years, as more and more of my time has been devoted to our emergent gaming business, Milena has been overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Mutuels Department," said Director of Gaming and Wagering Bobby Geiger in the press release. "Her performance has been outstanding.
"The challenges she faces annually are daunting. The department's staffing fluctuates from about 40 employees in December to almost 500 during the racing season. Recruiting, training and retaining that many team members each year is a tall order. Yet, the loyalty many of our seasonal personnel exhibit is a reflection of how much they enjoy Milena's leadership. She fosters a wonderful working environment and a large number of her tellers graduate to full-time or management positions here at Oaklawn."
Erceg, originally from the former Yugoslavia, has lived in Hot Springs since 1978. Prior to joining Oaklawn, she sold real estate and operated her own hair salon.
