HSU math department nationally recognized

ARKADELPHIA -- Henderson State University's Department of Mathematics has received national recognition for its secondary mathematics program from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.

NCTM is considered the Specialized Professional Association that manages math content accreditation standards and the related review process, according to Celya Taylor, dean of Teachers College, Henderson.

"This review process fulfills the accreditation requirements for the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation Program Review with national recognition," Taylor said. "To further compliment the efforts of our math education faculty, such as Dr. Debra Coventry, five assessments used by the math program are now being showcased as national exemplars on the CAEP website."

Henderson's secondary mathematics program is for students who seek to prepare to teach mathematics at the secondary level or intend to study mathematics education at the graduate level.

"Having such a well-respected and nationally recognized math program positively impacts the overall CAEP accreditation process for the entire educator program at Henderson State," Taylor said.
