Lattes & Lit will welcome author Denise White Parkinson at 6 p.m. Sept. 3 for the free monthly literary event hosted by Kollective Coffee+Tea, 110 Central Ave.

Lattes & Lit spotlights Arkansas authors the first Saturday of every month. Featured authors include Linda Pennington Black, Bud Kenny, Kai Coggin, Nancy Hendricks, Stephen Koch, and Kat Robinson.

Parkinson, author of "Daughter of the White River" will share excerpts from her new book in progress titled "The River Sisters: Tales & Mysteries of the Arkansas Delta," a collection of historical fiction inspired by the rediscovered archives of master photographer Dayton Bowers, of DeWitt, according to a news release.

Parkinson first encountered Bowers' photography, some of which appears in "Daughter of the White River," during five years of research and interviews with the late L.C. Brown, of Hot Springs, a beloved historian of the River People of Arkansas, the release said.

Born, raised and educated in Arkansas, Parkinson writes for numerous regional publications. "Daughter of the White River" is her first book. Parkinson also curates the touring exhibit "Delta: Rediscovered," photographs by Dayton Bowers taken between 1880-1924. The exhibit is made possible by grants from the Department of Arkansas Heritage and the Morris Foundation.
