Concerns remain

Dear editor:

I had just recently drafted a letter to send to the newspaper on the handling of the Judge Naramore case. The article in the paper today titled "The Right Decision" by Mike Masterson very eloquently expressed some of concerns that I had on the case. However, I would like to make a few more comments.

Why did it take four months for the detective to interview Judge Naramore, seven months to arrest him and for the court case to take 13 months to be heard? This is called justice? Why did the detective falsely accuse him of having an affair, indicating that it was in the records, then later changed his story that it was based on an anonymous phone call? I also take issue with the photos of the dead child being shown in court. What a complete lack of compassion! Everyone knows the child died from the heat and this was not necessary.

Some people say, "How could anyone leave their child in the car?" This was a momentous mistake none of us want to make, bad things happen in many of our lives. Others say, "Why would this man continue to be paid after this awful tragedy for which he was responsible?" He did not make the decision; it was the state Judicial Discipline and Disability Commission. Of course, had the case proceeded on a timely basis, the cost would have been substantially lower.

Now we find that the state Judicial Committee has to review the judge's suspension. Could they not have prepared for this during the past 13 months! So it goes on and on.

The judge and his wife face this awful tragedy every day, but it is my hope the pain of their grief will eventually be replaced with the knowledge that their child is with the Lord and will be protected for eternity. They have been in my prayers ever since the incident and I will continue to remember them.
