Record UA crowd watches Duke soccer fall

FAYETTEVILLE -- The highest-ranked soccer team to visit Fayetteville since 2012 lost before a Razorback home-record crowd Friday night.

Arkansas scored the first two goals and held on for a 2-1 victory over No. 2 Duke before 3,010 fans.

Senior Claire Kelley scored in the 20th minute and freshman Stefani Doyle in the 49th minute for the Razorbacks, Doyle's fourth goal in three games. Freshman Olivia Urbeck scored in the 75th minute for Duke, the 2015 NCAA runner-up.

"First off, thanks to the best fans in America," said Arkansas coach Colby Hale. "We knew coming in how special some of Duke's players were but they hadn't really been through anything yet. They'd been cruising.

"We had been through some stuff and felt prepared to handle whatever the match brought. Our kids' fight was fantastic. They executed the game plan to perfection. What a great win."

Arkansas increased its previous home attendance record, set in 2015 against TCU, by more than 29 percent.

Arkansas (3-0) plays its second home game of the season Monday against Missouri-Kansas City. Kickoff is 6 p.m. with the game streamed online by the SEC Network.
