Lakeside juniors take volleyball title

BENTON -- Olivia Lawrence had two aces among nine service points plus five kills and 18 assists for Lakeside Junior High's volleyball team in a championship match Saturday.

Ainsley Rottinghaus added seven service points (four aces) and three kills as the Lady Rams defeated the host team 25-17, 25-13 in the Benton Invitational. The Lady Rams won five out of six games in pool play, receiving a top seed to the tournament bracket, and won a three-game semfinal against Bryant.

Abby Mahoney had six service points, a block and three kills against Benton. Other Lady Ram contributors were Maddie Trusty (five service points, nine kills and a block), Molly Stineman (three kills and eight digs) and MC Cowen (14 digs).

Hattie Ann Douglas had seven service points and four kills in the 25-11, 19-25, 25-10 match with Bryant. Georgia Gooch had six service points and four kills, Cailin Ward adding six service, two kills and seven assists and McKaila Davis chipping in five service points and two kills.

* Coming off a weekend tournament championship at Mena, Lakeside's varsity volleyball team defeated Malvern 25-6, 25-8, 25-10 Monday.

Shelby Little recorded her first double-double of the season with 18 assists and 12 digs, leading the team with eight aces and adding five kills. Mady Rottinghaus recorded 10 kills off 16 attempts while Erica Hendrix and Kailey Bausch combined for 39 digs and Gaylynn Green posted six kills and six digs.

Lakeside is 8-1 with a home match Thursday against Magnolia, the Lady Rams' eighth- and ninth-grade teams and junior varsity also playing.

Shelby Kathcart recorded three kills on six tries while Daelynn White recorded a personal high of 22 digs for the victorious Lakeside junior varsity. Lindsey Davis and Macie Hendrix combined for 10 assists in the 25-20, 25-17 match.

* Cutter Morning Star opened conference play Monday with a 25-15, 25-23, 25-13 victory over Perryville. The Lady Eagles have a home match against Ashdown at 5 p.m. today.

Emily Simmons had three aces among 12 service points and recorded six kills for the Lady Eagles. Cherokee Fields had three aces and five kills while Christian Hamilton added two points (both aces) and four kills.
