Arkansas women rock Butler, now 9-0

FAYETTEVILLE -- Arkansas' women and Butler's women continued their respective basketball ways Wednesday night at Walton Arena.

Arkansas, by 68-50, won its ninth consecutive game while Butler losts its seventh straight.

Jimmy Dykes' unbeaten Razorbacks play at Missouri State (Springfield) Sunday before final exams.

Kurt Godlevske's youthful Butler Bulldogs (2-8) return home to Indianapolis for a nonconference game Sunday against Indiana State.

Arkansas senior forward Jessica Jackson led all scorers with 19 points, 13 in the second half.

Playing big off the bench, Razorbacks Keiryn Swenson scored 15 and Devin Cosper 13. Swenson scored 12 during the first half, making all five of her floor shots in the half and all free throws she attempted in the game.

"She (Swenson) shot the ball well and obviously has a lot of confidence and was a big boost for them," Godlevske said.

Swenson's shooting surprised her.

"During warmups I was missing everything and I was a little nervous coming into the game," said the sophomore from Wichita, Kan. "But once I hit that first shot I got all my confidence back and was relaxed the rest of the way."

Swenson also said she missed everything warming up on Nov. 13 before scoring a then-career high 13 against Louisiana-Monroe, surpassing that mark with 16 against Navy.

"I guess that's just a sign if I shoot bad I should be looking forward to a good game," Swenson said laughing.

Laughing with her, Dykes said, "Keiryn was a big spark to us in the first half and Jessica Jackson got to the free-throw line 10 times. We are pleased to be 9-0."

Arkansas sophomore point guard Malica Monk scored 11 and dished five assists, and freshman starting guard Jailyn Mason also dished five assists.

For Butler, Tori Schickel scored 16 and Taylor Buford scored 11.
