Using land records to find lost ancestors

Run into difficulty tracing some ancestors using the standard processes? An alternate path to search using the county land records might be helpful. To find out how, join the Hot Springs Village Genealogical Society meeting at 2 p.m. Thursday in Room 6 of the Coronado Community Center, as members learn about a variety of sources, starting with the obvious and working through other sources people may not have thought about using.

The program will be "Let's Look at the Land" by Mary Reid Warner, a graduate of Oklahoma State University with a master of liberal arts degree from Southern Methodist University.

A member of numerous heritage societies, she is past president and life member of the Village Genealogical Society, honorary state president CDXVIIC, founding officer of the Guild of Colonial Artisans and Tradesmen and honorary regent of Arkansas Chapter DAR.

VGS meets the first Thursday of each month, September through May, at Coronado Center. There is an informal breakfast meeting at 9 a.m. the third Thursday of every month at Debra's Restaurant on Carmona Road where topics of interest are shared and discussed. These meetings are open to potential new members. Please call President Joe Gillespie, 501-581-1411, or Program Vice President Barbara Pinkney, 501-915-8446, for details.
