Inspections unnecessary

Dear editor:

Accolades to David Campbell for his letter in reference to Sharon Grant's proposal for inspections and fees. Ordinance-required inspections will result in city fees and likely other costs that will result in "increased rental rates."

Most rental properties, and owner occupied homes, in our community are older and comply with the codes in place when they were built. Properly maintained rental and owner-occupied properties are safe. Property investors understand the value of properly maintaining their rentals.

Government inspections are unnecessary and would add cost to the property owner which would be passed along in higher rental rates. I strive to provide safe and affordable housing to my tenants at fair rental rates and to solve problems they experience in a timely manner. I always deal with them in a respectful manner; doing this has worked very well and I am confident my tenants would agree.
