Humane Society of Garland County Thrift Store, 2026 Central Ave., in the Freeman Center, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. Donations of gently worn, clean clothing and shoes, jewelry, purses, antiques, home decor, household items, books and nonupholstered furniture in good condition are accepted. All proceeds contribute to the care, veterinarian fees and shelter for dogs and cats at the kennel facilities at 1249 Ault Loop, Lonsdale. Donations of dog and cat food and other pet supplies may be dropped off at the store. Free low-cost spay and neuter vouchers are available at the store. Safe Haven Shelter For Women and Children Thrift Shop, 3907 Central Ave., in South Park Shopping Center, is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Items include clothing for women, men and children, and household goods. Donations are welcome.

Stop Animal Cruelty Thrift Store, 123 Albert Pike, is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday. All proceeds benefit the rescued pets in foster care. SAC is an all-volunteer organization striving to promote humane principles, prevent cruelty and alleviate fear, pain and suffering in animals. It investigates reports of cruelty and neglect in Hot Spring and Garland counties. Donations of kitchen items, home decor, clothing, shoes, bedding, linens, collectibles and furniture in good condition are appreciated. Humane Society of Garland County pet adoption is held from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturdays at Petco, in Cornerstone Shopping Center. All dogs and cats are neutered, up-to-date on shots and deemed healthy. To volunteer to help with adopt-a-thons, transporting dogs, humane investigations, education programs, Walk-A-Dog project or at the thrift store, call 623-5012. The kennel, at 1249 Ault Loop, Lonsdale, off Highway 128 east of Hot Springs Village, is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. HSGC is a limited intake "no kill" facility which is donation-funded only and receives no tax funding. It offers programs such as Humane Education and Dog Bite Prevention to any local youth group, school, church or civic organization.

Mountain Valley Sportsman's Association holds International Defensive Pistol Association matches at 9 a.m. on the second Saturday and U.S. Practical Pistol Association matches at 10 a.m. the fourth Saturday of each month. Rimfire matches are held on various Sunday afternoons. Trap and Skeet fields are open at 9 a.m. Saturdays; and 1 p.m. Sundays and Tuesdays. Cowboy Action matches are the first Saturday. Civilian marksmanship matches are the third Saturday. All are held at Valley Range. Stop Animal Cruelty of Hot Spring and Garland Counties meets the first Sunday of every month with the location announced on its Facebook page, Stop Animal Cruelty Arkansas. It is a "no kill" nonprofit organization ran by volunteers where all pets are kept in foster care. Its purpose is to promote humane principles, prevent cruelty, encourage spay and neutering, and alleviate fear, pain and suffering in animals. It sponsors low-cost spay and neuter clinics to help alleviate pet overpopulation. Dog Bite Prevention and Humane Education classes are available to local elementary schools, churches and civic organizations.
