Unresponsive woman found in ditch

A 25-year-old Royal woman was found lying in a ditch Friday morning near the Garland County Detention Center and was transported by ambulance to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs, according to a report released Friday.

Two witnesses discovered the woman, who was lying in a ditch about 100 yards west of Crystal Hill Road and Albert Pike Road, and were attempting to assist her when Hot Springs police Officer Shane Lewis arrived. Deputy Schroeder also responded to the location.

• A Hot Springs woman was arrested on a November battery warrant and a January theft warrant Thursday.

Leslie Renee Jones, 35, who lists a Count Fleet Lane address, was taken into custody at 615 W. Grand Ave. and charged with theft of property, a felony punishable by up to six years in prison, and third-degree battery, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail. Jones bonded out and is set to appear Feb. 22 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, the victim stated Jones came to her residence on Nov. 15 and punched her in the face multiple times. Jones was allegedly agitated because the victim had given Jones' former boyfriend a ride and he was at the victim's house. She drove to the victim's house twice. The first time, she struck the victim with a closed fist four to five times. Jones fled and the landlord contacted the sheriff's department. She returned a second time before deputies' arrival. The victim was standing on the front porch when Jones jumped out of her car and ran up to the porch, yelling and hitting the victim in the face.

The victim suffered from knots on her head, bruising, swelling and redness to her left eye.

On Jan. 25, the sheriff's department received a theft report of a business check for $16,566.31 from Rafter R, 1838 Airport Road. The check was initially placed in the mail, but was cashed a few days later for a different amount. The victim was shown a copy of the check, but said she did not know the name on the check, "Leslie Grise." The check had been altered to the amount of $1,628 and deposited into a Discover Bank account in Greenwood, Del.

Discover Bank provided account information containing copies of check deposits, including the Rafter R check. "Leslie Grise" was listed as the account holder and had made multiple debit card transactions in Hot Springs. Surveillance footage at two retailers showed a suspect, later identified as Jones, making several debit card transactions.
