A Hot Springs woman was arrested after allegedly cutting her girlfriend's arm with a steak knife.

Kandiz Lovell Morine, 29, was taken into custody at 2:30 p.m. Monday at 1601 Hobson Ave. and charged with second-degree domestic battery, a felony punishable up to 10 years in prison. Morine remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of zero bond and is set to appear Feb. 23 in Garland County District Court.

According to the affidavit, the victim said that while she was talking on the phone with her mother, Morine, her live-in girlfriend, slapped her, knocking the phone out of her hands. Morine then struck her in the back of the head with an open hand and retrieved a steak knife from the kitchen, swinging it at the victim and cutting her right arm several times. The victim put her arms up to block Morine from striking her in the torso. The victim was able to retrieve her phone and fled from the residence when Morine threw down the knife.

Officers observed three lacerations on the victim's right arm, above her elbow, on the outer forearm and outside of her wrist, consistent with defensive movements. LifeNet transported her to National Park Medical Center.

• A Hot Springs woman who allegedly set fire to another woman's shrubbery next to her residence in January was taken into custody for reckless burning.

Deundra Dekarla Williams, 26, of Jacksonville, was taken into custody Monday at 3564 Albert Pike Road and charged with reckless burning, a felony punishable up to six years in prison. Williams bonded out and is set to appear Feb. 23 in district court.

According to the affidavit, on Jan. 25, Hot Springs police officers and Hot Springs Fire Department personnel responded to 402 Alpine St. in reference to a fire. Firefighters extinguished bushes against the residence that were on fire, and the victim said she believed Williams set the bushes on fire. It was determined the fire was intentional.

Williams voluntarily interviewed at the Hot Springs Police Department on Feb. 2 and admitted to setting the bushes on fire at the victim's house. She stated the victim had made some disrespectful comments that angered her.
