Village Rotarians make connections

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE -- At each meeting of the Hot Springs Village Rotary Club, past president Lee Ann Branch reads the Connections Report. In it, club members are congratulated for achievements, and concerns are noted for illnesses and special needs. It's a way members can keep each other in their minds and hearts.

But that's not the only way club members connect with each other and the outside world.

During the Feb. 4 meeting, HSV resident Lee Hess announced that she and fellow Rotarian Ross Johnson recently took about 200 pairs of clean, warm socks to Samaritan Ministries in Hot Springs. The socks were donated by club members to help those less fortunate make it through the winter, by supplying an item many people take for granted. Hess also read a note of thanks from Samaritan Ministries, expressing appreciation for the Rotary Club's concern for others.

Member Cindy Wagstaff then reported that the Habitat for Humanity application seminar virtually doubled in size this year to 89 applicants. Rotarian Dave Mason stepped in to act as translator for those who spoke Spanish.

Also in the meeting, Villager Sue Ratcliffe was inducted as a new member. Sponsored by Caryl Joy Young, Ratcliffe's impressive background and energetic outlook will be put to good use as the club continues making connections -- both with each other and the world at large.

HSV Rotary Club membership is open to all, and guests are always welcome to weekly meetings, held at 7 a.m. Thursdays in the Fireside Dining Room of the Good Samaritan Society, 121 Cortez Road.
