Boozman raises $595K in last 3 months for re-election bid

LITTLE ROCK -- Republican U.S. Sen. John Boozman on Tuesday reported raising more than $595,000 over the past three months in his re-election bid.

The Arkansas lawmaker reported spending more than $282,000 during the quarter that ended June 30 and had nearly $2.1 million cash on hand. Friday is the deadline to file fundraising reports with the Federal Election Commission.

Boozman, a former U.S. House member, was first elected to the Senate in 2010 and defeated North Little Rock businessman Curtis Coleman in the March GOP primary. Boozman's being challenged by Democratic nominee Conner Eldridge, a former federal prosecutor.

Boozman said he remains confident he'll defeat Eldridge in November.

Eldridge's campaign didn't immediately respond to a request for comment and his latest fundraising figures weren't available. Boozman had outraised Eldridge during the first three months of the year, and Eldridge had reported having $371,705 on hand.

Eldridge faces an uphill fight to unseat Boozman in Arkansas, where Republicans control all statewide and federal offices along with both chambers of the state Legislature. Boozman's re-election bid is not expected to create the TV ad blitz that hit the state two years ago, when then-Democratic Sen. Mark Pryor was defeated by GOP challenger Tom Cotton.

The two rivals and outside groups spent more than $68 million on that race.
